Rose de Mai Absolute is rose with a spicy, balsamic, and prominent mossy character. As an absolute, it is the heaviest and richest of all the roses. Rose de Mai is complex containing top, middle, and base notes of its own. The opening is balsamic and very oily; in its undiluted form it leaves a thick russet colour on the smelling strip. As it settles, it takes on a sweeter, narcotic character and loses some of its mossy nature. In the final stages of the dry down, the top and mid notes are still apparent but the spicy, clove/eugenol aspect becomes more noticeable. When added to a formula it can produce a beautiful if faint lychee quality; Other key descriptors: balsamic, rose, petals, faint honey, spicy, clove, yeast, moss, faint phenol
